Sonya Coleman has worked as the Chronic Kidney Disease Nurse Practitioner at the Nundah Community Health Centre since 2008 under the auspices of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She played a key role in developing the community based chronic kidney disease program with workforce development, education and service delivery. Prior to this Sonya worked as a clinical consultant in Saudi Arabia and developed a renal based program for Saudi Nurses. Sonya has had a career spanning 25+ years predominantly specialising in nephrology nursing. Her objective is improving health care needs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through community engagement and is a key member of Kidney Business, the purpose of which is to build a new health architecture which aims to raise awareness and promote early detection and prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (A&TSI) Communities.
